Broca's Area: Episodes

Isabelle just got back from a trip to her hometown, Quebec City, QC. While she was there she had to install a wifi network at her Mom's place in order to watch House of Cards on her iPad. OK, this episode of the podcast contains a large number of spoilers, it is full of spoilers, spoiler alert. ...
We have not recorded in quite a while, so we thought that, on our way to do some shopping, we would record a little.

It's our Christmas special!

We talk a bit about the holiday itself, a bit about the recent ice storm in southern Ontario, a bit about podcasting, a bit about power outages and then ask Jon what he got for Christmas. At this point he figured he would take over, so we quit.....

Merry ...

Yes, it is that time of year again, the Canadian National Day of Podcasting has arrived.
Every December 1 Canadian podcasters (amateur ones, not wearily marketing types) put out an episode, even if the show itself is gone ...
We talked about how Isabelle is quite pleased to leave the teaching game for now and concentrate on art.

We then got into stuff about students and ...

o, like, yeah, we're back. Tonight we had a few things on our mind. For reasons that have completely escaped me we somehow started talking about the Battle of Thermopylae. Oh yeah, Isabelle was talking about her art history class and Greek architecture.

We then got into how damned depressing ...

his one was recorded in two parts. In the first bit we are out to lunch and we talked about Isabelle's Haiku writing and how we don't know anybody anymore, at least on our street.

Lunch time.....
Then we came home, ok, it is five days later, and we had a drink or 4 and talked about ...

Well we thought we would step in to the whole Quebec charter of values thing. Isabelle had a discussion today on facebook with some old friends about the charter. If you don't know, the charter, which is being proposed by the separatist government of Quebec, wants to make wearing religious garb ...

So, we went for a walk, we saw some stuff, by a waterfall, which was pretty cool, though I hope the sound is ok... Isabelle did a wonderful job as well of translating 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' and singing it along with her uke.

We spoke a bit about meth, and how it is a bad idea ...

So, we have not recorded in ages, indeed, we missed our eight anniversary of podcasting. Anyway, we talked quite a bit about Isabelle's art class which she attended in July. She went to this three day art workshop in Spring Bay, ON. Spring Bay is on Manitoulin Island, the largest fresh water island ...

On Canada Day Jon wanted to podcast, so we did a bit, but really he just wanted to type. Then Isabelle and I picked it up on July 4 and talked about our recent trip to London and Montreal and how hard it is to talk to yourself. The coolest thing in Montreal was the Chiluly exhibit we saw.

There ...

We talked a little Rob Ford, a little soccer and turbans, a little Canadian Senate and then my shortcomings were pointed out.....

Isabelle favoured us with a Spanish song, which was kinda cool.

We then talked some of how we don't have many people we can just call and talk ...

We talked about a few issues tonight. Members of the Muslim community in town want to have a women only swim at the local Y, and we are fine with that. This lead us into a discussion of online commenting and how stupid people are. Then I swore a lot....

We switched gears and talked ...

In this episode we talked about her great new idea of having non credit language workshops at the University. It is her baby, and we are pretty excited to see it get going. It looks like I will be speaking at a conference, so check it out and come!

We talked a bit about twitter, about politics ...

I just got back from London and I had a great time at the Brain Tumour Foundation walk/run.

Isabelle had a sort of multicultural student thing here at the house while I was gone and she made the picture on the left.

We then got into a discussion of crazy people we have worked ...

We ramble on a bit in this episode, give us both a break, we gave our last final exams today. Today's big topic and theme was what does it mean to be a citizen.

I think really what it means to be a citizen is to sponsor me in the Spring Sprint for Brain Tumour Research.

You know, I went to a pretty good high school. Indeed, at one time it had the highest percentage of Ontario Scholars (over 80 percent average in your final year of high school) in the province. OK, so now it produces al Qaeda terrorists. So yeah, that's bad.....

We drove around looking for a place to record episode 12, we had very little luck. Even McDonald's wouldn't take our money. It was like nobody worked there. Eventually we settled on A and W.....

We talked about the conference I was just at, about the new Pope, about art, you know, standard ...
