A scent has caught his attention. Displaying flehmen he tests it, possibly Magwaza is coming into ...
As is usual after a meal the lions went to drink. Sjambok is still sporting his scars but seems to have got the lions share of the warthog kill. The Nyari pride spent the rest of the night lying around at Hwata pan roaring intermittently. Manyari and Magwaza groom each other for some social bonding.
It's not the time of the impala rut but these young males will sparr right through the year. It's all good training for when the rut really comes as these fights can sometimes even end in death. After much sparring the youngsters call it a day as they need to conserve their energy in these really ...

When the neighbours started roaring across the river, the Nyari pride settled in for a couple of hours giving their full-blooded roars in return. 4 lions roaring within 30ft of the car sure rock's your bones.

An impressive bunch of tuskers arrived to drink at Banyini pan. While filming them I noticed the one bull with a floppy trunk. He was still able to drink fine but had to fold his trunk over in order to get in his mouth. This floppy trunk syndrome is caused when elephants feed on a specific forbe. ...
The Nyari pride had finished off their zebra kill and drank at Nyari pan. They spent the rest of the night trying to find a comfortable position to lie in which their hugely distended stomachs just weren't allowing. They extreme discomfort from over eating wasn't going away in a hurry.
I haven't been with the Nyari pride for a couple of months now and when I found them with this zebra carcass this morning they weren't too happy to see me. But it didn't take them long and they were soon totally chilled out with my presence and Manyari was tucking in to the carcass again.
A herd of wildebeest sauntered into the area the pups were resting and the pups just had to hassle them. There are some youngsters in the herd but that's not what the pups are after. For now it's just a game and anything that turns its back on them just has to be chased. Eventually the pups get bored ...
It was extremely hot and the elephant wasted no time in heading down to Lojaan dam. With great haste they moved along the drainage line finding a few small wallows on the way before reaching the dam for one mass wallow and swim.
A Slender mongoose had disappeared down this hole and the wild dog pups were desperate to get to it. They took turns digging at the hole and at times they'd all be in there digging away frustratedly as they sure could smell the little guy right there almost at the end of their noses but they ...
The pups were reluctant to leave their warm pile of bodis in this morning's cold chill, but when they did get going they just didn't stop playing.
They came out the woodland in single-file down to Sosigi dam. And the buffalo just kept coming and coming, a herd of nearly 400 strong. Suddenly there was no shoreline, just buffalo. Quite the spectacle.
Lichtenstein’s hartebeest are one of Africa’s fastest antelope but even so are nervous when approaching water for a drink. The zebra hang back, using the hartebeest as guinea pigs to draw out any danger. The zebra finally get to drink when they’re confident no predators are lurking.
The dogs found this adult male impala already half eaten, and already having eaten 2 impala this morning they still went on to finish this one off. With the cool overcast weather the pups were active for ages playing and then followed on after my vehicle when i left.
The wild dogs had killed a Sharpe's Grysbok but the tiny antelope was hardly going to feed one dog, let alone the whole pack. The last remaining morsel was wanted by all and the owner wasn't left in peace. All the pups hassled the owner and eventually nobody got to eat the last morsel.
She's so small and only days old, she got lost amongst all those bodies in the mud wallow. With temperatures soaring she was only too happy to be right in there. Mom soon got her out to safety and a good drink before leading her away from all the action. She's just sooooooo cute!
With temperatures well over 100F in the shade, the elephants were lucky to find themselves a mud wallow where the little guys had a magical time AND the mom's joined in too. No such luck for me.
With an orange glow on the water at Khayeni pan the wild dog pups were playing on the waters edge. The perfect end to a most magical African day.

The wild dog pups were at it again playing in the late afternoon as temperatures cooled. At last they were coming to terms with water and were happily splashing in Khayeni pan.

The wild dog pups are faced with a dilemma. Mom and dad have killed in the reeds and they're desperate to get there but now they're confronted with the flowing Chiredzi River. They egg each other on down the sandy river bank but each time they quickly retreat. Eventually dad makes an appearance ...
